JAIPUR: An eight year-old boy, a student at the St Xavier’s School in Nevta-Mahapura on the city outskirts, was killed, while his father was injured when an overspeeding truck hit their bike from behind on Saturday. The father was taking the boy to school on the bike to attend the parents-teachers meet when the mishap occurred near Kamla Nehru Nagar flyover on Ajmer Road.
The boy died on the spot after the truck ran over him and sped away from the spot. The police are yet to identify the vehicle.
According to the police, the boy was Vishwajeet Ranawat, who lived with his family at a rented accommodation in Vidhyut Nagar. The father, Yashpal Ranawat, belongs to Kanpura village in Pali and worked at an IT office in the city’s Rajapark area.
“Yashpal went to his office in the morning, but returned home after working for a couple of hours because he needed to take the boy to school. They left around 11.30 am for the school,” said a police officer.
The officer said that an overspeeding truck rammed into the bike. The boy fell on the left side, while the father on the right side.
“The father got away with a fracture, but the truck ran over the boy. As a result he died on the spot,” said the officer.
The officer added that Yashpal drifted into unconsciousness at the sight of the mutilated body of his son. The police handed over the body to family members after a postmortem examination. The body was taken to the family’s native place in Pali for final rituals.
“The father was in a state of shock, so we couldn’t record his statement. He couldn’t see the registration number of the truck. We are yet to identify it. An FIR has been lodged for causing death by negligence against the truck driver,” said the officer.
